The Miller is a minor character in the 1996 film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Role in film[]

The Miller often allows any wary traveller to spend the night at his residence, including "gypsies". However, Claude Frollo while on a manhunt for Esmeralda finds a Gypsy talisman on the Miller's property and puts the Miller and his family under house arrest until Frollo finds facts. He later orders his newly-appointed captain of the Guard, Phoebus to burn their house down with the family inside, intending to make any witnesses in the vicinity aware of the consequences of aiding and abetting gypsies. However, Phoebus disobeys Frollo and frees the miller and his family.

They either escaped Frollo's wrath and escaped France, or if they had been arrested, pardoned for unlawful imprisonment.
